I really am. Blog fail.
Lately, I've been doing a lot of weird art and a lot of cute art. My personality is a juxtaposition, it makes sense my work would be as well, yes?
The point of interest is that they are both done in very different styles than the one I cultivated while in school - which is a very good thing.
I'll post it eventually, probably, but I don't really think of most of it as "illustration" work so much as...random ridiculousness.

Millions of years.
I haven't updated in millions of years. I've been moving, you see. I just relocated from Georgia to California - it was hectic, but ended well. I can't wait to start arting again.

Black & White? Black & White!
I'm beginning to wonder if it would be a good idea for me to work on some black and white illustrations. They opportunity to do things in good, strong black and white was really hard to come by while in school, but I think there's a lot of merit in a black and white image. I don't like grayscale stuff, really. I prefer the boldness of solid black and solid white; cross hatching can be enjoyable. Just something else for me to think on, I guess.

Favorite Works
These are a few of my favorite pieces of the last dozen or so I've done. They vary in medium and style but I think they all still manage to look like they were done by me. I use to think it was imporant to only have one "style" and stick to it, but now I know it's necessary to be versatile and show many abilities. At least I think it is.

This was an editorial illustration for an article in The Economist. The article was about the continued fear of attack after 9/11 felt by some Americans, as well as the seemingly frivilous, ridiculous efforts of homeland security. Click on the image to see the how the illustration works on the page.

Here's a poster design for a made up event. I wish it were a real event, that would be the best thing ever.
February 2008

Last but not least, a portrait of Tom Waits and the animal I feel best pairs with him - a grizzly bear. I spent a lot of time on this one and I really love it dearly. Please click on the image for a larger view, it's worth it.

Latest Work
This is my latest piece, completed about three weeks ago. It was for an article about the negative impact the fashion industry has on young girls and their body image. I chose to focus on the "thinness making women crazy" aspect of the article.

There were a few more steps in there, of course, but these are the most important.
I don't usually do shading, I tend to think my work looks more fun without it - you know, more punchy - but I'm really pleased with the way the shading works here. I don't think the dimensionality of the woman's skinniness would've been captured as well using flat colors.

Professional?
This is what the pros are doing these days as far as I know - having an art blog. I thought the idea seemed silly, but it's good to have a place to be like, "Hey look, I did sketches and junk," I suppose. So...stay tuned!
My friend Malia is currently working on my website for me, so keep an eye on http://www.lizgreenstuff.com, but in the mean time my art stuff can be oh-so-unprofessionally viddied at http://xxprivateeyexx.deviantart.com. It's better than nothing, right?
